Conceive
LH
|
What
is ovulation?
Ovulation
is the release of an egg from your ovary. The few days around
ovulation are the most likely time to become pregnant.
What
is LH?
LH
stands for luteinizing hormone, which is the substance that triggers
ovulation. During most of your menstrual cycle only a little is
produced. However, in the middle part of your cycle the amount
of LH suddenly increases for a short amount of time. This increase
is called the LH surge.
How
do you determine when to start testing?
First
determine your usual cycle length. If you are unsure about your
usual cycle length, use the shortest cycle length from your past
4 cycles. Then using the WHEN TO START CHART provided, find your
usual cycle length on the left side and look across to find the
number of days to count ahead from the first day of your period.
This will be the day you begin testing.
Is
there a preferred time between 10 am and 8 PM to collect my urine?
The
recommended time to take your urine sample is between 10am and
8pm. It may be more preferable between 12pm and 3pm since the
LH is found in the blood in the morning and will be excreted in
the urine by midday, where it is detected. What if the R line
is very pale? The test is still valid. The test is considered
invalid only when the R line is not visible.
Today
the R line is paler than the other days, is the test still valid?
Yes,
the test is still valid. What is important is that you see the
R line clearly.
What
if the T line is very pale?
As
long as the T line is paler than the R line the result is negative.
What
if there is no T line?
This
indicates a negative result.
What
if the R and T lines were the same colour?
This
indicates a negative result.
The
R and T line are the same color but the R line is thicker. Is
this a positive result?
No,
the width of the lines is not important. The intensity of the
color is of importance.
My
T line got darker as time went on. Does the test become more positive
with time?
No,
the test does not become more positive with time. The results
should only be read between 3 and 5 minutes. The test is no longer
valid after 5 minutes.
How
accurate is the test?
If
performed correctly, the test is greater than 96% accurate when
performed by consumers and 99% accurate in laboratory studies.
Once
the test is positive when is the best time to have intercourse?
No
matter how many days you have a LH surge, the first day of your
LH surge, and the next day and a half, are the days you are most
likely to become pregnant.
Is
it possible not to detect a LH surge at all?
Yes,
it is. This may be because you did not have a LH surge during
this cycle, you may have tested too early or too late in your
cycle or the amount of LH in your urine may have been too low
to detect.
I've
used all 5 tests as instructed, but I have not yet detected a
LH surge. What can I do?
The
5 tests are enough for many women with regular cycles (cycles
that vary by fewer than 3 days). However, if your cycle is irregular
or if for any other reason you do not detect your LH surge after
5 days of testing, you should continue testing with another Conceive
test kit. If you still do not detect a LH surge, call your doctor
or the Technical Assistance Line.
Will
the amount of liquid that I drink affect the test results?
Yes,
you should reduce your liquid intake for about 2 hours before
you collect your urine. A dilute sample could prevent you from
seeing your LH surge.
Do
common drugs affect the test?
Common
drugs will not affect the expected results.
Can
I use this test to avoid getting pregnant?
No,
it is not a contraceptive.
I
am now using the basal body temperature method (BBT). Does this
test replace BBT?
You
should follow your doctor's instructions about the use of BBT.
The BBT method is not always accurate in predicting the time of
ovulation. Conceive detects the hormone rise that takes place
before ovulation. Conceive helps you to better predict when you
ovulate.
How
important is timing when I do my test?
Timing
is very important. Results should be read between 3 and 5 minutes.
Do not read results after 5 minutes.
Can
a test from one box of Conceive Ovulation be used during the same
month with tests from another box of Conceive Ovulation?
Yes.
Can
I store my urine and test later?
Your
urine can be stored at room temperature 59-86°F (15-30°C) for
up to 8 hours, or in the refrigerator 36-46°F (2-8°C) for up to
24 hours. Do not freeze it. If you stored your urine, sometimes
there will be cloudy urine at the bottom of the cup. Use the clear
urine from the top. You do not have to warm your urine to room
temperature after refrigeration.
Will
Clomid or Serophene affect my results?
If
you are taking Clomid or Serophene on days 5 to 9 of your cycle
you may begin using Conceive on the 12th day of your cycle. If
this does not apply to you, the rule of thumb is to begin testing
with Conceive 3 days after you have stopped taking Clomid or Serophene.
If you have any questions, consult your physician as to when to
begin testing. Testing too soon may cause a false positive (false
surge) result.
What
is the difference between OvuQuick and Conceive ovulation test?
The
only difference is that OvuQuick is available in a 6 and 9-day
kit, whereas, Conceive is available in a 5-day kit.

Conceive
Pregnancy Test
|
How
soon can I use the Conceive pregnancy test?
You
can test as early as the first day of a missed period.
How
does this test work?
When
you become pregnant, your body makes a special hormone called
hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). The hormone will be present
in your urine. The Conceive pregnancy test can detect hCG in your
urine.
Is
there a specific time during the day I have to perform the test?
The
Conceive Pregnancy test can be performed anytime of the day.
How
much urine do I add to the test cassette?
Add
only 3 drops of urine to the test well.
How
long do I have to wait for the results?
Wait
3 minutes before reading your result in the Result Window. Some
positive results may appear as early as 1 minute.
What
if there is no C line?
The
C line is the control line. If you do not have a control line
then the test is invalid. Save your urine and call the Toll-free
Assistance line.
The
T line is very pale does this mean I am not pregnant?
No,
even a very faint pink-to-purple T line indicates a positive test
(i.e. you are pregnant).
How
accurate is this test?
In
laboratory studies the Conceive Pregnancy Test had an accuracy
of 99.5%.
Will
the amount of liquid I drink affect the results of the test?
Although
you can test any time of the day, a dilute urine sample could
cause a false negative result. You may wish to use your first
morning urine sample because it is usually the most concentrated
of the day.
Can
medication affect my test result?
Commonly
used drugs will not affect the expected test results.
Why
do I need to consult my doctor?
If
you are pregnant, it is very important to get early advice or
prenatal care. If you are taking any medications, you should talk
to your doctor immediately to see if they are safe for your baby.
If you are not pregnant, and your test results are still negative
a week later, it is important to consult your doctor since the
delay in your menstrual period could be the result of another
health-related factor.
If
I see a pink color cover the Result Window, vertical pink lines,
or pink color under the vents is this normal?
After
the urine is added, you will see a pink color liquid movement
that starts from the Urine Well and gradually moves toward the
top of the Result Window. You may see a few vertical streaks and
some color under the vents. This is completely normal and that
indicates the test is working properly.
What
would cause an incorrect result?
Certain
medical conditions, such as ovarian cyst or ectopic pregnancy
(a pregnancy outside the uterus) and medications containing hCG
can cause a false positive result. Testing too soon or drinking
too much liquid can cause a false negative result. However, if
you follow the directions carefully, you should be confident of
getting a correct result.
If
a faint pink-to-purple line appears anytime after the three minute
waiting time, am I pregnant?
You
must read your results within 3 minutes. Results after 3 minutes
are invalid. You should re-test.
How
do I know the test is working properly?
If
you see a blue line in the Result Window next to letter "C", your
test is working properly.

Cromolyn
|
Can
Cromolyn be used after allergies have started?
Yes,
the product will help. But Cromolyn will work best if you start
using it before your allergies start. Cromolyn nasal and ophthalmic
are the only non-prescription products that can both PREVENT and
RELIEVE allergy symptoms safely and effectively. Patients can
be symptom-free if they begin medication at the onset of the allergy
season.
How
long before allergies start do you start using Cromolyn?
If
you have seasonal allergies, start using Cromolyn 1 week before
the allergy season.
Will
Cromolyn make me drowsy?
No,
Cromolyn is non-sedating.
Can
I use Cromolyn with other medications?
Yes,
Cromolyn is not contraindicated with other medications.
I
have a hypersensitivity to pseudoephedrine, can I use Cromolyn?
Yes,
Cromolyn is safe for people with hypersensitivity to pseudoephedrine.
Can
I use Cromolyn for extended periods of time?
Yes,
there are no concerns for rebound effects, contrary to intranasal
and ophthalmic topical decongestants.
Can
children use Cromolyn?
Unlike
other anti-allergic medications, Cromolyn can be used by children
five years and older.
How
long should I use Cromolyn?
It
should be used continually throughout your usual allergy season,
even when you feel free of symptoms. Continued use could help
ensure you remain symptom-free.
Can
Cromolyn ophthalmic be used with contacts?
Do
not wear soft contact lenses during treatment with Cromolyn. Your
contacts can become stained.
Can
a patient with glaucoma use Cromolyn?
Do
not use Cromolyn with any other eye treatment except on the advice
of your doctor.
Why
is it recommended to discard the opened bottle after 4 weeks?
After
1 month the bottle is more prone to contaminants.

Cystistat
|
What
is Cystistat?
Cystistat
is an effective treatment for interstitial cystitis. The active
ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found naturally
in eye fluids, body joints, and on the inside layer of the bladder
(GAG layer).
How
does it work?
The
hyaluronic acid in Cystistat temporarily restores the GAG layer
of the bladder wall helping to relieve the pain, frequency, urgency
and other symptoms associated with interstitial cystitis.
How
is Cystistat given?
Cystistat
is not a pill. Your doctor transfers Cystistat into your bladder
through a process called instillation.
How
long do you have to be on this medication for interstitial cystitis?
Usually
one instillation per week for the first month then monthly afterwards
until symptoms resolves. Six treatments are the minimum number
recommended for Cystistat to reach optimum effectiveness. Response
time may vary from patient to patient. Do not be discouraged if
you do not notice improvement in the first few weeks. Best results
are usually seen after the 5th or 6th instillation. You should
probably start feeling increased relief from the 2nd or 3rd month
on.
If
treatment was successful is it necessary to retreat?
If
significant relief is obtained the interval between treatments
can be increased to 6, 8, 12 weeks on a gradual basis. As soon
as any indication of symptoms appears retreat. But it is best
to consult your physician.
Are
there any side effects?
Studies
have shown that Cystistat has few if any side effects and that
it is very well tolerated. This is probably because the active
ingredient found in Cystistat (hyaluronic acid) is a substance
that naturally occurs in your body. Some patients may experience
minor initial discomfort from the instillation, but not from Cystistat
itself.
Will
Cystistat cause an odor after instillation?
No.
Unlike Rimso-50 (DMSO-dimethyl sulfoxide), which causes a garlic-like
smell that may be present for 24 hours after instillation, Cystistat
does not cause a garlic odor.

Kegel
Exercices
|
What
are Kegel exercises?
They
are pelvic floor muscle exercises used for treating incontinence
in both men and women of all ages. They do not involve surgery
or medication, and pose little risk for side effects. Similar
to other exercises, they are a series of repeated contractions
of one set of muscles- the pelvic muscle.
How
can the pelvic muscle help incontinence?
The
pelvic muscle supports the bladder like a hammock. We can tighten,
and relax these muscles. When tightened or contracted, the urethra,
which is the tube that passes urine from the bladder to outside
the body, is squeezed so that the urine is held in. if these muscles
are strong, urine will not leak. However, if they are weak, they
cannot close off the urethra, and urine may leak. Pelvic muscle
exercises help to strengthen the "hammock", so that the urethra
can be kept closed, to keep urine in.
How
do you find the correct muscle to contract?
To
find the pelvic muscle, squeeze the muscles that you would use
to hold back urine or a bowel movement.
How
do I know I'm performing these exercises correctly?
To
perform them correctly you must remain relaxed and focused on
the pelvic muscle. Breathe normally; do not hold your breath.
Each contraction should be held for 5-10 seconds and each second
should be counted like "one thousand and one (one second), "one
thousand and two (two second) etc. After each contraction the
muscle should be relaxed for about 10 seconds. One set consists
of 10 exercises and one set should be performed each hour while
you are awake.
How
long do I have to do these exercises before I see improvement?
Improvement
will be evident if the exercises have been performed regularly
after 5-6 weeks and if there are no other causes contributing
to urinary loss.
Once
I feel improvement do I have to continue performing these exercises?
Once
the muscles become strong and control is achieved it should be
maintained by doing one set of 10 exercises 2 or 3 times per week.

Lindane
|
What
is the difference between the shampoo and the lotion?
The
Lindane shampoo is used for the treatment of head lice and their
nits. The lotion is used in the treatment of crab lice and their
nits, and in the treatment of scabies infestation caused by Sarcoptes
scabiei.
Can
Lindane be used on children?
Lindane
is recommended for infants and children under 6 years of age only
on the advice of a nurse, pharmacist or physician, since the potential
for central nervous system toxicity is greater in this age group
than in adults. If used in children care should be taken to prevent
ingestion of pms-Lindane from thumbsucking. Children must not
be allowed to apply pms-Lindane without adult supervision.
Can
Lindane be used on pregnant or breast-feeding women?
Lindane
is recommended only on the advice of a nurse, pharmacist or physician
for pregnant and nursing mothers. If used by pregnant women the
recommended dosage should not be exceeded and these women should
not be treated more than twice during their pregnancy. The concentration
of Lindane found in breast milk, following topical administration,
is unlikely to cause toxicity. However, an alternate method of
feeding the baby should be used for 4 days.
Is
it normal to see live lice after the treatment?
Yes,
it can take a couple of hours before the lice die.
Can
the lice live on animals?
No.
If
the treatment was unsuccessful, when can I have another treatment?
Treat
seven days after the failed treatment.
Why
do you need to take a warm bath or shower before applying?
Dirt
blocks the penetration of the product; therefore it needs to be
washed off.

This
indicates a negative result.
What
if the R and T lines were the same color?
This
indicates a negative result. The R and T line are the same color
but the R line is thicker.
Is
this a positive result?
No,
the width of the lines is not important. The intensity of the
color is of important.
My
T line got darker as time went on.
Yes,
it is. This may be because you did not have a LH surge during
this cycle, you may have tested too early or too late in your
cycle
or the amount of LH in your urine may have been too low to detect.
Will
the amount of liquid that I drink affect the test results?
Yes,
you should reduce your liquid intake for about 2 hours before
you collect your urine. A dilute sample could prevent you from
seeing your LH surge.
Do
common drugs affect the test?

it is not a contraceptive. I am now using the basal body temperature
method (BBT).
Does
this test replace BBT?
You
should follow your doctor's instructions about the use of BBT.
The BBT method is not always accurate in predicting the time of
ovulation. OvuQuick detects the hormone rise that takes place
before ovulation. OvuQuick helps you to better predict when you
ovulate.
How important
is timing when I do my test?
Timing
is very important. Results should be read between 3 and 5 minutes.
Do not read results after 5 minutes.
Can
tests from one box of OvuQuick One-Step Ovulation be used during
the same month with tests from another box of OvuQuick One-Step
Ovulation?
Yes.
I've
used all the tests as instructed, but I have not yet detected
an LH surge. What do I do?
Six
tests are sufficient for man women with regular cycles (if your
cycle varies by fewer than 3 days). If your cycle varies by 4
days or more, you may need to test with a 9-day kit. If you still
did not detect an LH surge, call your doctor or the Technical
Assistance line.
Can
I store my urine and test later?
Your
urine can be stored at room temperature 59-86°F (15-30°C) for
up to 8 hours, or in the refrigerator 36-46°F (2-8°C) for up to

Reality
|
Is
it made from latex?
No,
it is made of polyurethane, a thin supple plastic. People with
latex sensitivities or allergies can safely use Reality.
Does
a male condom offer more protection than Reality, a female condom?
When
used properly and consistently, the Reality offers contraceptive
protection comparable to that of the male condom. Studies show
that Reality is 40% stronger than latex condoms and is six times
less likely to leak. Like the male condom, Reality also protects
against STD's.
How
sensitive is Reality?
Reality
can be quite sensitive. Since it is made from polyurethane, which
is a lot thinner than latex, it conducts heat, so it means sex
can feel great!
Can
an oil-based lubricant be used with Reality?
Yes,
oil-based lubricants may be used safely.
When
do I insert Reality?
Reality
can be inserted up to eight hours before sex. However, most women
insert Reality 2 to 20 minutes before use.
How
do I insert Reality?
·
Find a comfortable position. Try standing with one foot up on
a chair, or sit with your knees apart, or squat down.
·
Be sure the inner ring is at the bottom, closed end of the condom.
·
If you wish, add a drop of extra lubricant to the closed-end outside
tip of the condom or to the outside ring before inserting Reality.
·
Hold the condom with the open-end hanging down. While holding
the outside of the condom, squeeze the inner ring with your thumb
and middle finger.
·
Place your index finger between the thumb and the middle finger
and keep squeezing the inner ring.
·
Still squeezing Reality with your three fingers, with your other
hand spread the lips of your vagina and,
·
Insert the squeezed Reality.
· Take
your time. If Reality is slippery to insert, let it go and start
over.
·
Now push the inner ring and the condom the rest of the way up
into the vagina with your index finger. Push it as far as it will
go. (do not worry, you cannot push it too far)
·
Make sure Reality is inserted straight and not twisted.
·
It is important that the outside ring lies against the outer lips.
About 2.5cm ( 1 inch) of the open-end must stay outside the body
in order to protect you and your partner during sex.
Do
I have to remove Reality right away after sex?
Reality
should be removed after sex and before you stand up.
How
do I remove it?
Squeeze
and twist the outer ring to keep the sperm inside the condom.
Pull out gently. Then throw away in the trash can.
Can
I re-use Reality?
No,
it is a one-time use.
What
if Reality slips up and down in the vagina?
If
you notice Reality slipping add lubricant to the penis or inside
the condom.
What
if the outer ring slips into the vagina?
STOP.
If the penis starts to enter underneath or beside the condom also
STOP. Take Reality out and add extra lubricant to the opening
of the condom or the penis.
